So Much Changes in Life, Does It Not?
So much changes in life. Only Istanbul does not.
So much changes in life, does it not?
People, affections, friendships, promises, hearts, thoughts.
What was one way yesterday you find another way today. Sometimes you can tell it will change, sometimes you cannot. And sometimes you know but cannot bring yourself to know.
We do change, friends.
Sometimes an event changes us, sometimes an apple falling on our head. Sometimes a promise unkept, sometimes all that wasted time. But change we do.
Only Istanbul does not change. Have you noticed?
You think you are watching her, but she has stood there for centuries watching you. It is you who changes, not her.
With the Maiden's Tower, Galata, Hagia Sophia, Topkapı and Sultanahmet, Istanbul has been watching us for hundreds of years.
One should be like the Galata Tower, I think. Stand there in all your grandeur. Let people do as they will, do not interfere, watch. Let them think they are watching you while you watch them. Let them devour one another, do not join in. Mind yourself, your life, your view.
Then perhaps you will live long like the Galata Tower, look young even centuries later, and dazzle always with your grandeur.
Give it a thought.
Be well. Ediz.
